byTavi experience//making an impact [outfit post]

Hey lovelies! I recently had the opportunity to attend a fashion show event/women's retreat to raise awareness about a very sensitive and heartbreaking cause-human trafficking. Specifically, this event addressed human trafficking in Cambodia. Before the fashion show (which showcased items from the byTavi line-more on that later), lunch was provided, informative videos were shown, and a few speakers took their turns speaking to us. Afterwards, their was a trunk show and booths where other causes were presented, allowing for even more knowledge of how we can make a difference in so many different causes. It is heartbreaking to know that human trafficking occurs-around the world, and even in my state. It is my hope that by sharing with you this post, you too can help make an impact in giving these women a voice and changing the outcome of so many of their lives.

What is Center for Global Impact? (CGI)
Quite simply they want to "Empower the poor, protect the vulnerable, and share the gospel". When it comes to their mission,
"Center for Global Impact seeks to bring the Good News of Jesus to those in the grip of poverty and bondage through education, vocational training and business development. Primarily working in Cambodia, many of those we serve are victims of — or vulnerable to — human trafficking".
What is byTavi?
ByTavi is a project of CGI where vulnerable women in Cambodia are offered "vocational training, consistent employment, and a living wage". With this training, the women learn how to make "high quality, boutique style handbags and clothing". Beyond this, they also receive life skills and spiritual formation opportunities.  All products made are marketed in the USA-all proceeds return to CGI projects.

Who is Tavi?
"When Tavi came to CGI in 2008, she found herself in a desperate situation. Her husband recently taken by AIDS, she was the sole caregiver of her two young children and an elderly aunt. Being HIV positive, she was weak and had no resources to sufficiently care for herself, let alone her family. Aware of her culture’s common acceptance of trafficking children to make ends meet, she desperately sought a better solution.
 Chum Tavi
She approached CGI and requested a sewing machine and seamstress training. Three short years after she began sewing pillow covers, she had inspired over thirty other women in her community to join a sewing team, whose products were to be labeled byTavi".
It is so inspiring to me that one woman could seek out help to change her situation, in turn changing so many other lives. Today,  byTavi helps women "realize and reach" their full potential. Women spend time in retreats, receive seamstress training, and have other responsibilities in the workshop. Through all this, they become freed from the bondage of absolute poverty.

Below are a few pictures I snapped throughout the lunch portion/fashion show portion of the event. Unfortanetly, my seat and view were a bit obstructed by the microphone and the podium, but I was still able to get a few pictures in. Most of them are blurry, because these ladies were on the move! It is hard to label all pictures with what item form byTavi each woman is wearing, so just know that in each picture, either a dress, top, bag, scarf, or skirt is being worn. If you visit the byTavi website, you will be able to see the items shown! These pictures are geared more toward those that attended the event-I had some requests to try to document some of the outfits! I did my best! I had an amazing time at the event and hope you are inspired and interested in the cause just as I was!

If you know me, you know I couldn't resist the desserts after lunch! I didn't get a picture of all the lunch foods, but I couldn't miss out on a picture of yummy cookies!
Checking out the outfits before the show!
Clockwise: Ava Ritter-who personally invited me and who was a HUGE part of helping to coordinate and put together the event. Beth, the coordinator as well-and hilarious woman, I must add! Kim Anthony, a former U.S. National Team Gymnast; she was the first African American female to be recruited and receive a scholarship to compete for UCLA's gymnastics team. She is also a keynote speaker and author. Her new book is called Unfavorable Odds and can be found here. It tells more of her life story so far. Everyone who spoke during this event had an amazing story, and I feel so blessed that I got to hear these amazing ladies speak, and to learn more about human trafficking.

[The clothes]
In this set of pictures the items by byTavi are (clockwise): the tunic, the skirt, the top, the top, and the scarf (worn as a top!)
In this set of pictures the items by byTavi are (clockwise): Scarf and purse, skirt, top, dress, and dress.
The trunk show and other causes being presented; as you can see, byTavi has plenty of scarves, purses/bags/totes, and coin purses. IN LOVE!
[My OOTD]
After seeing all the items at the show, I couldn't resist making some purchases and giving to a great cause. The white top is byTavi. I also bought a scarf at the show.
 Watch brand is DKNY.
The bracelet is from Express, earlier in the winter season.
My booties are Jessica Simpson, purchased from T.J. Maxx. I can't find these exact boots, but these are VERY similar.
As you can see, this byTavi top was part of their "Imprint Collection".
My necklace is very old, but I know it was purchased at Forever 21. This is a very similar necklace, although it is not as bright!
I hope this event recap was interesting and fun for anyone reading it. If you want to learn more about CGI or byTavi, click here and here!
***This event took place at the Hilton Garden Inn in Beavercreek/Dayton, Ohio. Lunch was prepared by the chef at the hotel and holy cow-it was amazing!

Well, This is Awkward.

Oh hello there. Somehow in the past month and a half (nearly) I managed to completely neglect this little space of mine on the interwebz. It was unintentional, but life happened...so what can you do! It's been some good, some bad, and some great things distracting me, but tonight I finally found some time and energy for putting together a blog post. A little update-my hospital job is going great; it totally drains me some days and a 12.5 hour shift sometimes feel like 24 hours, but most days I adore it and the day goes by pretty fast. I've had some heart issues (mainly my whole life) but new issues were recently discovered so I have been dealing with that-kind of scary and lots of stress but luckily in my spare time I have been distracted pretty well! :) As for today's post, I decided to keep it on the shorter side(pun intended haha) and share an outfit that I think is great for summer days that are a bit breezy or even for chilly summer nights. This sweater is very lightweight so it is pretty versatile! Also, I discovered how much I love Loft in the past few months. Almost anything I have bought this summer has came from there!

Outfit details: Sweater: Loft // Shorts: Kohls (Wallflower-last summer) // Bracelets: Express (Wishbone here, can't find the other one!) // Sandals: Loft // Necklace: Forever 21 (very, very old!) //

Have you discovered any new favorite stores this summer?

Spring Tease

Maybe I am just wishing time away, but I am so ready for Spring! This past weekend I drove to my hometown to see family. The forecast called for temperatures up to 60 degrees...knowing that, I didn't pack a winter jacket. I didn't end up needing it either! The weather was such a nice change from the below zero, can't even breathe, I think I am going to die before I get to class temperatures. In typical Ohio fashion, I am back to wearing my winter coat this week, and only dreaming of nicer weather. I may or may not have had to take some night photos because, well you know. Night came. Okay outfit time!

Outfit Details- Oxford: Old Navy // Muscle Tee: Old, another cute option // Jeans: American Eagle // Shoes: Keds // Bracelet: Old, similar style // Watch: Relic // Bag: So old, similar //

How is there weather where you live? Anyone else ready for Spring?

As for the jacket, my cousin let me borrow it for this post...but it convinced me I need inspired me to buy one for myself ASAP. It seems like this fall and winter season I have been obsessed with jackets and boots...I should probably stop buying both (but we all know how that goes!)

By the way, I hope everyone had a great Christmas-I know I did! I am super sorry for the lack of posting but I have been really enjoying spending all this extra time with family while I am home, and I also have been working at my hometown job here and there which also takes up my time! I do have at least 3 posts planned after this one though, so keep an eye out! Below is one an outfit of mine that shows off one of my favorite scarves... I adore mustard yellow in the fall and winter! Don't let the snow fool you...this was right before all the snow melted because the temperature went up once again. I am ready for a little more snow though!

Lets Talk About Stripes, Baby! [outfit]

A little birdie told me that fall is just around the corner. Am I ready? Duh! That is like asking me if I love chocolate! I will miss being able to just lay in the sun with a book, but lets be real, I only did that once or twice anyways. I am all about boots, layers, and scarves, so I am pretty excited for fall to roll around. With all that being said, I would say this is probably one of the last semi-summery outfit posts I will be doing! I am pretty sure that this post includes two items I will be wearing completely out this fall-the striped top and my new Sperry's. I never thought I would be a Sperry girl, but a few weeks ago I went to the mall with a friend, and I spotted these bad boys. I thought, "I will just try them on, it's not like I have ever even gave them a chance..." well less than 5 minutes later I was making the purchase. I don't get it. I didn't even think I liked Sperry's, but then I put them on and my fashion heart melted a little. So that's the explanation behind that purchase. The top was also a new purchase, and had the other top I spotted not been so expensive, I am sure I would be featuring that on here too! I also couldn't decide if I wanted to wear my sandals or my Sperry's with this outfit, and honestly, I like both. This would be a situation where I may walk to class in sandals, finish class, then change shoes for my next class. If you are thinking I am a terrible decision maker, you are so right. Don't hate me for the picture heavy post, again, I just am horrible at choosing!

All about the details.
The switch.
My excitement is actually real...I think I like these shoes!
Top: Jcrew // Shorts: Wallflower (Kohls) // Necklace: Forever 21, old // Earrings: They were a gift! // Sandals: Walmart (similar) // Sperry's: Nordstrom //

What is your opinion? Sperry's or the sandals?

Draped Back Casual and a Little Quote Love!

Short and sweet post today! I am always working it seems (usually 6-7 days of the week!) so when I can get out of my work clothes, sometimes I just want to dress up. Some days I want to be comfy casual, and others I want to get use out of the "dressier" items. I decided to pair this tank top with jean shorts to make it a little more casual, and I think it pretty much is the epitome of my style! If you like this top, try to get it now! It is on sale on the site for $12.50 right now! Now, moving on to the outfit...and one of my favorite quotes! :)

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

Sometimes Simple is Better [Outfit]

Guess who's back? Back from vacation-and I already miss it! I will be putting together a vacation recap soon so I can look back on it later, so if you like those kinds of posts, be sure to keep checking for it! Anyways, while on vacation I planned on doing a few different outfit posts, but with the near daily rain, lack of "big" plans, and just being lazy, I didn't do it! I did come back with one set of outfit pictures, and I have to tell you now that it isn't anything spectacular...oops. Bigger oops is that I left all my jewelry at home, so I had none on vacation, hence the reason this outfit may be a bit boring. Either way, I love this dress and it was perfect for going out to dinner with my family after being at the beach during the day!

Love the tie back! I may or may not have tied this like a two year old...fail!
If anyone wants to take me back to Florida, be my guest! :)

Outfit details: Dress: American Eagle (similar-I don't know why this one isn't on their site!) // Sandals: Walmart  (similar)

Most simple outfit ever. Even if I had all my jewelry with me, I probably would of kept it almost as simple as this!

A little preview from my instagram of what I have been up to :)
