Bring on the Snow [Mustard Yellow and Leather Outfit]

Where does the time go? I am nearly through my Christmas break from college, Christmas came and went, and I will be welcoming a new little sister to my family in just 3 days! By the way, I hope everyone had a great Christmas-I know I did! I am super sorry for the lack of posting but I have been really enjoying spending all this extra time with family while I am home, and I also have been working at my hometown job here and there which also takes up my time! I do have at least 3 posts planned after this one though, so keep an eye out! Below is one an outfit of mine that shows off one of my favorite scarves... I adore mustard yellow in the fall and winter! Don't let the snow fool you...this was right before all the snow melted because the temperature went up once again. I am ready for a little more snow though!

A Few of My Favorite Things [Currently]

Hold on a second. Christmas is in 12 days guys. Twelve! This year has flown by! Since I have been so busy the past two weeks with the end of the semester and finals, I decided to try and make up for it by sharing some of my favorite things at the moment! I love hearing about what products, songs, and non-material things (and anything else!) that people are liking, so I thought this post would be a fun one!
1. Bath and Body Works "Velvet Sugar" Body Mist: This stuff smells SO good! It is sweet and sugary just like the name implies...and I think it is perfect for the holidays! I have really enjoyed spraying this on me throughout the day if I don't want to wear a heavy perfume.

2. Yes to Tomatoes Clear Skin Lotion: This lotion is one that is supposed to balance your skins moisture levels as well as clear up or prevent acne. I really think it has been doing what it says, and may write a whole post dedicated to it! I have been using it morning and night!

3. Becca Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector: You may remember seeing me review this primer recently...and I am still loving it and using it daily! Definitely the best primer I have ever came across! For using it everyday, I am so surprised that I have so much left still!

4. Sibu Beauty All Natural Sea Buckthorn Balancing Facial Cleanser: Well that was a mouthful. I have been using this cleanser lately and have fallen in love with it! Expect to see a full review of this product when I review the lotion I mentioned above! The two of them together are like magic! I also noticed that the website that sells this is having a 40% of sale right now-check it out if you are interested in some natural skincare!

5. Dove Refresh + Care Dry Shampoo: This is a lifesaver. I have tried so many brands of dry shampoo and this is one of two that I have found that works amazing for me. I can't go without this! It does leave a bit of a gray tint to your roots if you have darker hair, but once you run your brush through your hair it is completely gone. Perfect for the days you skip washing your hair!

6. Benefit Gimme Brow Gel: If you fill in your eyebrows, this product is definitely worth looking into! I have pretty dark eyebrows that are full on their own, but I do like to fill in the tails of my brows just to look a bit more put together. It is crazy how filling in your brows just a little bit can add so much more to your look-in a good way! I have mine in the shade "medium/deep".

7. NYX Butter Gloss in the shade "Maple Blondie": This lip gloss is exactly what it sounds like...like butter. I mean imagine the softest gloss ever on your lips. The lasting power is really nice, and the subtle scent just adds to my love for this gloss! I have been pairing this a lot lately with my Mac lipstick in the shade "Spirit".

8. Virtual "Try on" Websites: If you know anything about me, you know I like to change things up a lot; because of this I kind of play around with looks online before I actually go for it. Over the summer, I reaaaaaallly wanted to chop of my hair-and I did. Before I did though, I "tried on" hairstyles and hair colors to be sure I would look okay with the big change. I also like to try before I buy, so it has been really useful to try on virtual glasses before making any big decisions. If you ever get bored...seriously do yourself a fun favor and look up virtual try-on sites...you will have a blast, haha.

9. Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in the shade "Blissful Berry": This color is so dang pretty for fall and winter, and I just can't get enough! Like many others, I adore a darker lip color in the colder months, and this one is perfecto! You may have seen me wearing it in this outfit post!

10. Rimmel Scandal Eyes Wateproof Kohl Eyeliner in the shade "Nude": Since buying this about 2 months ago, I haven't went a makeup-wearing day without it! I line my waterline with this and it really brightens up my eyes and makes me look a bit more awake...great for those who didn't get enough sleep the night before!
Swatches, from top to bottom: Rimmel Eyeliner in "Nude", Maybelline Lipstick in "Blissful Berry" and NYY Gloss in "Maple Blondie".

11. The song "Story of My Life" by One Direction: I shouldn't even bring this up because it means it will once again be playing in my head. I am not kidding when I say this is probably day 6 or 7 that my roommates and I CAN'T for the life of us get this song out of our heads. None of us even really listen to One Direction, but somehow this song creeped into our minds and totally took over. You think you are safe from this song, and then someone else plays it in our apartment, and the cycle repeats. Someone should ask me a week from now if the song is out of our heads... if we don't go crazy by then.

What are you loving lately?

Comfy Cross Patch Sweater [Outfit] and "The Sweater Weather" Tag

Since it is absolutely freezing right now, I figure I might as well embrace the cold weather and accept the fact that it is only going to get colder from here...which means SWEATER WEATHER! What is better than an oversize, soft, warm sweater when you're freezing your butt off? Nada. So here I am embracing the cold and switching it up around here-with a tag post! This is actually a pretty popular youtube tag, but for now, I will just stick to the blog posts!

The Sweater Weather Tag
1. Favorite candle scent? First question and this is already hard! I love B&BW's "Spiced Apple Toddy". Mmmm.

2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate? I am going to have to cheat here and say mixing hot chocolate with coffee. One of the best things ever!

3. What's the best fall memory you have? Honestly probably freshman year of high school, going to every single football game. I never missed one. So long ago...but I love thinking back to that time!

4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eyeliner? Dark lips are fun to switch it up and be a little unexpected...but winged eyeliner is a lot more wearable day to day...so I think I prefer winged eyeliner!

5. Best fragrance for fall? Hands down Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb... it smells so good!

6. Favorite Thanksgiving food? Pie. That counts, right? Pumpkin, apple, and cheesecake. Need me on Thanksgiving? Seriously, just look at the dessert table! Oh, and homemade mashed potatoes. Love!

7. What is autumn weather like where you live? The temperature is pretty brisk...the leaves on the trees are gorgeous with different colors and this year we were lucky to not have too much rainy weather!
A picture of my campus last fall :)

8. Most worn sweater? I don't have a most worn sweater yet! I am guessing it will just be soft, cozy sweaters in general!

9. Must-have nail polish this fall? Essie "Wicked". Perfect for fall!

10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles? Football games all the way!

11. Skinny jeans or leggings? Skinny jeans for warmth...but leggings are so comfortable! They are the best to wear with oversize sweaters!

12. Combat boots or Uggs? Combat boots! Currently loving my new ones!

13. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype? Yessss...Not just Starbucks either! So many places are coming out with different takes on it, and I pretty much like them all!

14. Favorite fall TV show? American Horror Story...I haven't been keeping up with it as much this season though...I will have to have a mini-marathon this weekend!

15. What song really gets you into the fall spirit? I can't think of one in particular...but since Christmas music has been everywhere for the past month... I guess that gets me in the fall and winter spirit!

Sweater: Charlotte Russe // Scarf: Old, similar here, here and here // Leggings: American Apparel

Boots: Charlotte Russe // Earrings: Charming Charlies (similar)

What is your favorite fall/winter piece of clothing? If you do this tag, leave your link below so I can read your answers too!

Makeup Talk: Benefit "They're Real!" Mascara

Every once in awhile I come across a product that just needs to be raved about...so all you mascara lovers out there, this one is for you! Recently, I picked up the travel size version of Benefits "They're Real!" Mascara while at Sephora so I didn't have to pack a full size mascara for a trip. I didn't think the mascara would do anything crazy, wow me, or make me forget about all my other poor mascaras...but I was completely wrong. This my friends, is my newest makeup love!

Wearing one coat of the mascara.

On Sephora's Website, the product has claims to be: "A jet-black mascara that lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts, and separates lashes for a spectacular "out-to-here" look."
 The bristle design.

Other claims: " The specially designed brush features staggered bristles that grab close to the root, boosting length and volume beyond belief. The custom-domed tip uses precision bristles to lift, define, and curl even your tiniest lashes. With a glossy, jet-black, long-wearing formula, you’ll flaunt luxurious, silky lashes that won’t smudge, clump, or dry out."

Before I go on about how amazing this mascara is, I should probably show you my natural lashes so you can see the difference the product makes!
Decent length and curl on their own buuuuut a girl can want better lashes, right?

I like the look of dark, lengthened lashes...so on most days, you will see me wearing some sort of mascara. With that being said, I am not fussy about it. I am a one coat and I am done type of girl-no layering, no separating with a lash comb...nope. So when a product delivers on it's claims, I am happy!

My thoughts: With one coat of "They're Real" Mascara, I always feel like my lashes look longer, fuller, and separated. The wear time is literally all day. No flaking and no smudging. The bristles on the wand are pretty unique; at the very tip there is more of a dome shape, which lets you easily apply mascara to shorter lashes or the inner corner where I always smudge mascara. There honestly isn't much to say about this besides the fact that 1) The claims are true. 2) You should pick it up if you're willing to shell out the cash. 3) Since it is long wearing, it is harder to get off. Water won't work alone-you'll need some face wash or a makeup remover wipe. 4) Some people may only want to use this for special occasions or nights out since it can really give you a dramatic look to your eyes!

This mascara retails for $23 when you get the full size and $10 when you get the travel size. You can find it easily on Benefits Website, but I bought mine at Sephora.  If you like to emphasize your eyes, I say go for this product! Totally worth it!

What is your favorite mascara?

Leather and Gold [What I Wore]

I haven't posted many outfit posts lately, buuuuuut I have an excuse! I don't have someone to take outfit pictures for me! Usually my photography-loving uncle takes my pictures, but he lives in my hometown, about 2 hours away. Today, one of my besties, Allison, volunteered to be a doll and take some quick shots for me! So thanks girl! I have been obsessed with reds, purples, burgundy, plums, etc all season so far...which means it is no surprise that I pull this outfit out of my closet! I adore this top, and the details on it! Some of the buttons are skulls... adorable right?! I also like the shade of the top with the gold detailing-and speaking of gold, do you have a preference for wearing silver or gold? They say that people tend to look better in one rather than the other, but I am indifferent about it. Thoughts?

Makeup Talk: BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector

Here I am! After disappearing once again from the blog world, I am back with a new makeup review! Today I wanted to talk about a makeup primer that seems to be getting a lot of mixed reviews in the makeup world-and I think I know why!

Product: BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector
Size: 1.35 oz
Price: $36 USD
Claims (Directly from Sephora website): A targeted oil-control primer that perfects and minimizes pores for mattified skin that lasts up to 12 hours. This formula specifically targets oil-prone areas and acts as liquid blotting paper to leave your skin fresh and matte all day. The formula is sweat- and humidity-resistant and free of silicone, oil, alcohol, and fragrance.
Use:  Use alone, before, or after foundation to control excess oil, while minimizing the appearance of pores. Feel free to use throughout the day to touch up areas of concern.
Wear time: Prolongs my makeup wear at least 3 or more hours longer than any other primer; also keeps me shine free longer!
Consistency: Thick to the touch. Very thick. It really doesn't feel heavy or even noticeable on the skin though!

My thoughts: First off, I agree that it does seem to minimize the look of pores...even with no other makeup on, it gives your face an almost airbrushed finish. I don't notice any fragrance to it, which is a plus to those that are sensitive! I find this to be the most mattifying product that I have ever come across in terms of makeup products. I am pretty sure this is going to be a staple in my makeup bag forever...and not only does it keep me matte, but I think it keeps my makeup looking better longer! For all the mixed reviews, it almost always comes down to how the primer applies. Many say that it feels like you are rubbing glue on your skin, or that it "balls up" or "peels" off. Proper application is key here! On Sephoras site, it says to warm up the primer between your fingers and then pat it on. This is where all the problems are! I do warm the primer up and pat it on, and haven't had a single problem with it. For review purposes though, I rubbed it into my skin-and eww-the outcome was not cool. Definitely saw the peeling and weird chunks of it on my skin that people were talking about. I know everyone has their own way of doing makeup, but this is one of those times that you just have to go with what the product says! When you pat it on, it really has a chance to sink in and fill your pores, and it drys soon after, which then gives your your flawless base for whatever other makeup you choose to wear! Also, I did not have any breakouts due to this product!

All in all, I highly recommend this to combination to combination/oily skin types. The price may seem a little steep, but it is completely worth it, as you do not have to use a lot. Also, this comes with 1.35 oz, which is more than the usual 1.0 oz that most foundation and primer brands have!

I hope this was helpful! Thanks for reading!

Makeup Talk: Jane Iredale PurePressed Base SPF 20

Hi lovelies! Lately I have been trying out yet another foundation-and it just so happens to be another mineral one! My obsession continues! Since I have combination/oily skin, I try to look for powder foundations, since they are supposed to help control excess oil. Recently, I looked into a product, and gratefully received the *Jane Iredale PurePressed Base SPF 20. I had heard of the product before, and had researched it for awhile. For reference, I always look to Youtube, Sephora, and Makeup Alley for reviews on products before buying or using them. I tend to lean more towards Youtube and Makeup Alley for reliable reviews though, as Sephora can be biased (an employee has even told me!) On MA, this product had a glowing review, which made me very interested in trying it. Below is my personal review!

On the Jane Iredale website, it states that the "look is sheer and semi-matte". When I applied this for the first time (and many times since) I have to say that the feeling of the powder on your skin feels sheer and weightless, but you can build the coverage to about medium. As for the finish, I agree that it is semi-matte. It somehow makes your skin glow, but it isn't glittery or shiny at all. I chose to apply this with a kabuki brush for more coverage, but if you are looking for very sheer coverage, you could always use a large powder brush! The shade that I am wearing is "golden glow".
To me, it makes my skin look "healthy" if that makes sense. I didn't airbrush this picture at all...the powder just makes you glow! As for the wear-ability, I would say it lasts about 6 hours before needing touched up (coverage wise), although I tend to blot and apply my Mac Blot Powder after about 4 hours to extend the wear time. I did not notice any oxidation (darkening of shade) with this as I wore it. The website also states that this product is water-proof for up to 40 minutes, which is great for those that use it as sunscreen in the summer while outside, swimming, boating, etc. Since it does have SPF in it, I did not think it would photograph well, as SPF reacts with flash photography and creates a white cast. For some reason, this actually looks good in pictures despite having SPF. As for the ingredients in this, I didn't notice any that caused irritation to my skin.
As you can see, the packaging is beeeeautiful. I didn't want to put my brush into the design in the powder actually! The compact has a bit of weight to it, which makes it feel even more luxurious than it already is. What is great about the compact is that when you run out of your powder, you can just buy a refill pan instead of buying a whole new compact. The price for the filled compact is $52, and a refill pan is $40. You can also buy a new empty compact for $12, if yours ever becomes broken or damaged.  The only complaint I have about this product is the price, but for the quality of the product and the way it wears on the skin, I think it is worth it!

What is your favorite powder foundation?

So please excuse my absence from the blog world lately, I am her maid of honor and have been pretty busy! I hope to be able to do more frequent posts after this weekend :) I hate to make this short, but I have last minute projects to get done, ahhh!

My Current Skincare Routine with Recommendations!

Hey lovelies! This past weekend my cousin asked me to talk about my skincare routine, so I am going to do just that! For a little background: My skin type is combination. This means that my t-zone area gets oily (very oily) and everywhere else is pretty normal, not really dry nor oily. The area right beside each side of my nose tends to get really oily too. Also, I have more noticeable pores in my t-zone.
The t-zone is commonly shown to be similar to the shape of a capital T. This means that most of the forehand (top of the T), nose, and chin are in the t-zone. For me, this also includes areas on either side of my nose, but not completely onto my cheeks.

For my skin type, I focus on balancing the oil production in my skin, and controlling/preventing breakouts. I look for products geared toward those things, so here are a few of my favorites!

(Going clockwise): For face wash, I highly recommend Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Control Foam Wash or Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser.  Both do a good job of cleansing the skin without over drying, which is great for keeping oily skin in balance. When I was using Aveeno, I noticed some redness from my skin seemed to vanish while using the product. For moisturizers, I love the Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Control Lotion and the Beyond Belief ABH Facial Serum. I am not sure I could pick my favorite of the two, but I can tell you that these products make a huge difference in the health, oil production, and appearance of my skin!  When it comes to an eye cream, I can't say I have ventured too far out in trying a lot of brands. I have a few higher-end brands that I would like to try, but for now, I have been using the Dermactin-TS Serious Dark Circle Treatment (which I love!)After using this {morning and night} my under-eye area feels so moisturized! When I am breaking out, my spot treatment of choice is the Clearasil Rapid Action VanishingTreatment Cream. This stuff is magic...I am not even kidding! I also use something else as a spot treatment, but I will get to that soon!

I am ALL about face masks! I own more than these 4, but these are the ones that really make a difference in my skin. I clearly like the Freeman brand-having two just in this post (and more in my skincare drawer!) I recently purchased the Freeman Charcoal and Black Sugar Mask...and holy crap. Not only does it smell amazing, but when I wash it off my skin, I have the healthiest glow! The Freeman Avocado and Oatmeal Mask is great too...it really cleans out your pores, but is less exfoliating than the previous mask mentioned. The Clean & Clear Blackhead Eraser Cleansing Mask has been in my skincare routine for a long time now, mainly because you can see results with it, it leaves your skin feeling refreshed, and it works great as a spot treatment! The last mask I use is the Ageless Derma Special Clay Masque. I was given the opportunity to try this for free, and I am so grateful! I have had it now for almost 2 months I think, giving myself a good amount of time to try it, and I have to say, I adore it. I have been only reaching for this and the Charcoal & Black Sugar Mask lately. Like the Freeman mask, it really purges your pores and leaves you with glowing skin. It smells earthy-which I don't mind at all, as it is probably from the clay in it. It only has 9 ingredients, which is awesome. I think with some masks your skin has an initial purging phase; I actually had a couple breakouts pop up after using it the first time, but I have had that happen with other clay masks, and I truly believe it is caused from the mask drawing out your impurities. After using this mask (regularly I might add!) I can see a difference in my skin. I have noticed the redness in my skin has diminished as well, which could be from one or two of the ingredients in the mask? Besides working its magic all over my face, I will use this as a spot treatment. I do think that this gives the Clearasil spot treatment a bit of competition! I will be purchasing this mask once it runs out, and as long as it is sold! Side note: I usually do a face mask 2 times per week, or occasionally 3 if my skin is looking a bit rough!

The last part of my skincare routine that has done wonders for my skin is the Face Complexion Brush. I got mine from Sephora after realizing I could not spend the $150 + on a Clarisonic (spinning skincare brush).
I use this in the shower, every few nights. I usually just move the brush in small, circular motions on my face for 30 seconds at a time (forehead, chin, nose, and each cheek). I think that this paired with the impurity drawing actions of the masks has changed my skin for the better. My pores seem smaller, I have less blackheads, and the texture of my skin seems to be improved. I highly recommend shelling out the $7 for this brush, as it could be an easy but powerful improvement to your skincare routine!

I hope this was helpful! If any of you out there with dry skin would like me to research the best products for dry skin, I can do so-just let me know! Thanks for reading!

Sunday Social!

Sunday Social

This Weeks Questions:
1. What is the first blog you ever followed? Probably Andee, from The Honeybee! Pretty sure Monica was right after, or maybe before. Ugh! Can't remember!
2. What was your first blog post about? It was about Spring Fashion. Pretty sure it wasn't that great of a post...you win some, you lose some! haha. The post after it made up for it though!
3. Who left you your first blog comment? Brandy was my first comment!
4. Who was the first blogger you ever met in person?I have not met another blogger in person, buuuuut I am pretty sure meeting Sara is in the works right now! Anyone else that blogs living in Cincinnati currently?
5. What was your first “blogging milestone?” Ahh...probably hitting 100 followers? I mean it is not really the number...I am sure I felt the same way about hitting 25 or 50, but when I would sit and think about 100 people actually being interested enough in my blog to follow, I was pretty excited and motivated to continue blogging!

That is all the questions for today! I will hopefully keep this day productive and study for some of my classes, and maybe write another post or two! I hope everyone is having a good Sunday!

Wantable Personalized Box Review

Recently, I was approached by a company that offers monthly personalized boxes, one that many of you may have already heard about! The company is Wantable *, and that they are. (Fo' realz). I chose the makeup box, but they also offer an accessories box, and an intimates box. Also, it says on their website that they have a limited edition Halloween Makeup Box...which actually  seems really cool and distracted be from this post for a hot second!

Pricing: The way this box works is as a subscription, for the monthly price of $36, or a one time purchase, at $40.

Contents: The products you get depend on the category you choose (makeup, accessories, or intimates) and the results of your personal style quiz. I think the quiz is super helpful in tailoring products to you-not only does ask you if you like something, but it asks to what degree (like, love, or dislike). For example, it asked me if I liked gel, liquid, or pencil eyeliner. For each option, it asked me to rank it as being a product I "love, like, or dislike". I really think that this sort of customization gives you the best chance for receiving products you will like and use! You will end up getting 4-5 full size products in your box, that does exceed the price you payed for the box! #yesplease

Recommendation: I really do recommend this box. If you enjoy makeup, accessories, or intimates, I think this box service is a great way to try out new products you may not have stumbled upon before. Not only that, but like I said, you get products that add up to be worth way more than what you paid for the box, which is pretty much a dream, amiright?  Also, boxes like these are great as gifts...whether you want to gift someone with the monthly subscription, or you would just like to make the one time purchase for a box to give as a present.

See what I got in my September box!
Lise Watier Ombre Souffle Supreme Sample-no retail price, as it was just a sample!
Japonesque Angled Foundation Brush-retails for $25.00
Manna Kadar Extreme Curl Mascara-retails for $19.00
Michael Marcus Brow Pencil in "Brunette"-retails for $24.00
Lise Watier Hydra Shine Lip Stain in "Rose Classique"-retails for $20.00

This adds up to $88.00...more than double you would pay for the box!

All these products are something I would use, and get a lot of use out of. I completely fell in love with the brow pencil and lip stain; I have been consistently using them both!

Full size products
Sample Eyeshadow (The "Sunrise Peach" and "Vert Echante" are the 2 samples. Sorry for the terrible Iphone picture!
This is what a few layers of the lip stain looks like on. I usually only do a swipe or two of it, which gives me a bit of a softer effect, but I like that it can be layered like this, to the perfect color for fall! Also, ignore how messy I look. The only productive thing I have done today is this post, hence the "I-need-a-shower" look I am sporting! hah!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Do you currently have a favorite monthly box?
Thanks for reading!

Wild Child Tunic and a Little Shop Love! [Outfit]

Oh hai! It's time for another outfit post, and this one I have seriously been so antsy about posting. I don't want to have my blog just be about outfits, or have similar posts consecutively, but this time, I am letting it slide! If you have been following my blog for awhile, you would know that I have talked about Monica a few times. Not only does she have a fun, interesting blog, but she is super sweet and always seems to have a second for a conversation (that doesn't always happen in the bloggy world!) She was one of the reasons I started to blog, but we won't get all sappy here...instead, I wanted to talk about her little boutique that she started-and seriously how excited I am for her! Such a dream for me! Her boutique has variety, it's on trend, and she updates it often. Is Monica paying me to say this? No. Did I buy the top that I am about to show you? Sure did! I just want to give her a little spotlight because it is one of those "little stores" that deserves a little more attention! I think you would find something you loved and would like to see in your wardrobe if you stopped by her online boutique-the place has everything. Tops, bottoms, dresses, accessories, shoes...what more could a girl want?! If I wasn't on a college girl budget, I would probably buy nearly everything in her store! If you want to check it out, you can find it at: http://shopmce.com. Definitely worth a few minutes of your time...and maybe you'll find a new favorite shop!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you take a look at Monica's Closet Essentials!
